Tomato – Rodavigi is an indeterminate variety with strong growth and produces large slightly irregular shaped fruits. The flavour is very rich and delicately flavoured.
I found this amazing tomato variety by chance when we stayed at the idyllic Kastorian mountain town called Rodavigi. The name translates as the Sunrise Village and it has an incredible view over mountains and lakes. This is a stunningly beautiful area covered with trees, mountains and lakes as far as the eye can see. There are still bears and wolves living an undisturbed life. As it happens it was the first rainy day we had in Greece and while we didn’t see the sunrise we sampled the guesthouse owner’s home-grown tomatoes. He said they were grown by his family for over four generations and seeds were saved every year. It was one of the juiciest and most delicious beef tomatoes we have tasted alongside the other amazing Greek rarities.
